Motorcycle License Riding Test

Must have intact and valid Motorcycle Permit and motorcycle.

    Ride Ups welcome at any location on a testing day.

  • The Motorcycle License Riding Test (MLRT) is NOT an entry-level Basic RiderCourse. The MLRT comprises five riding skill evaluations on the motorcycle you bring to the location. You will be provided one attempt to complete the MLRT. There are NO guarantees you will pass the MLRT, and you may accumulate too many points before you have completed all five evaluations. There will be NO refunds or reschedules for pre-registrations or on-site registrations for any reason.

    You must bring with you to your riding session a valid driver’s license with a non-expired, intact motorcycle permit and proper riding gear.

  • You must bring with you to your riding session a valid driver’s license with a non-expired and intact motorcycle permit.

    You must also bring appropriate riding gear to your Motorcycle License Riding Test session, which includes:

    Helmet (DOT approved)

    Eye protection (visor or glasses)

    Full-Fingered Gloves

    Long-Sleeve Shirt

    Long Pants (with no holes)

    Sturdy Over Ankle Footwear (no tennis shoes)

    If the administrator of your MLRT deems you do not have appropriate riding gear or your motorcycle is unsafe to ride, you will not be permitted to continue. If you cannot continue or accumulate too many points during the evaluation, you must re-register for a new session, forfeiting your initial fee. You are permitted one attempt per day.

  • Indiana residents who are at least 16 years and 270 days of age and hold a valid Indiana driver’s license may:

    Successfully complete a written knowledge exam at a BMV branch to obtain a motorcycle permit.

    Pass a motorcycle skills exam at an authorized Ride Safe Indiana training location

    Upon successful completion of the written knowledge and skills exams, visit a BMV branch with your signed and stamped motorcycle permit.

    If you are less than 18 years of age, you must have a parent or guardian sign an Agreement of Financial Liability.

    The motorcycle skills exam is only good for the validity of the motorcycle learner’s permit.

  • If you do not pass the MLRT, you must wait 24 hours and schedule another session.
